Daniel Start

Daniel Start is an award-winning photographer and travel writer who has spent the past 10 years documenting the rivers and coastline of Europe for his bestselling Wild Swimming guidebooks including Wild Swimming, Wild Swimming Coast and Wild Swimming France.

The Wild Swimming app won the Sunday Times Travel App of the Week in 2011.

Daniel is also the author of  The Open Cage: The Ordeal of the Irian Jaya Hostages (Harper 1998) which won the Writer’s Guild Award for Non-Fiction.

The book gives an account of his experience of being held hostage by Papuan tribesmen in the remote mountainous province of Irian Jaya.
